2018 Powwows & Events
We know lots of you prefer to shop for beads in person – and why wouldn’t you? It’s so much more fun to hold them, see the colors in different lighting and compare sizes/types. We’d love for you to join us at the following powwows and gatherings in Indian Country.
For additional information about any event, please contact the event organizers directly. Some events may charge entry fees.
March 17 & 18 – Central Michigan University Powwow – McGuirk Arena, Mount Pleasant, Michigan
Event info: https://www.cmich.edu/office_provost/OID/NAP/Pages/Event-Flyers.aspx
Location in venue: Our vendor booth will be set up in the gym, off of the main hallway. Once you enter the powwow, turn left and walk down the hall. At the corner, go left into the gym. We will be set up in there with a number of other American Indian arts & crafts vendors.
Shopping times: Saturday 11(ish) am to 8 (ish) pm. Sunday 11(ish) am to 3 pm (sharp). We’re required to be out of the facility by a certain and so we must pack up early. Be sure to stop by before Sunday afternoon.
March 29-31 – Anishinaabemowin Teg Conference – Kewadin Casino & Conference Center – Sault Ste Marie, Michigan
Event info: http://www.anishinaabemowin-teg.org/
Location in venue: The planning committee generously lets us set up in one of the small conference rooms upstairs, near the coffee/snack table. We will post the room info once we arrive at the event.
Shopping times: Thursday-Saturday 9:00(ish) am to 5:00(ish) pm. We can stay open later if needed, please let us know.
Other events to follow. Please check back frequently.
Is there a powwow you’d love to see us at? Please Contact Us with the information (including vendor contact/information, if possible).
Notes about shopping at powwows:
Item selection: Generally, we always try to bring 11/0 Seed Beads, 10/0 Seed Beads, 11/ 2-cuts, 9/0 3-cuts, 13/0 Charlotte Cuts, 8mm Fire Polish Opaque & Opaque AB, along with thread, needles, earring findings, and jingles. If you need an item not listed at a certain powwow, please let us know at least two days prior to the event.
Also, if you need a large quantity of an item (for example, 10+ hanks in a single color of 11/0s, or 5+ hanks of 9/0 3-cuts or 10/0 Seed Beads, or 6+ bags of jingles of a single color), please let us know ahead of time. That way, we can pack extra for you.
If we don’t have an item at an event, we can process orders at powwows and mail the additional items to you, once we return home. There may be an additional shipping fee, depending on the nature of the product. We don’t like to do pick-ups for web orders at powwows; there’s a lot going on and we’re afraid that we’ll mess up your order somehow.
Payment: We accept cash (American currency only), Visa, Mastercard, Discover & American Express at powwows/events. However, some powwows are so isolated that we can’t get a signal to process card transactions. Also, technology is prone to occasional problems. So it’s a good idea to bring cash, if you plan on shopping.
Shopping times: we generally try to open one hour before Grand Entry. Sometimes weather, technological issues, or lack of coffee may delay this. We usually close when the dancing stops or by 10:00 pm, at the latest.
We start packing up at 3:00 pm on Sunday at powwows. Once we pack away an item, we won’t pull it back out for browsing – it’s our company policy and we strictly adhere to it. We do this to ensure that our employees have time to pack without heat exhaustion and can leave with plenty of time to travel home safely. Miigwech for understanding.
